whats up with my brakes?

my brakes dont start engaging until you damn near hit the floor with them. theyve been bled already. anyone know how i can fix this so the brake doesnt need to hit the floor before engaging?

Mine's been doing the same lately. Everything checks fine and I can even get them to lock, but you gotta push way far to stop. I don't dare drive on wet roads.
BTW, car looks great.

i hate to sound redundant and question the guy's work, but have you taken the calipers off and inspected the pads and rotors?

Most likely the rear brake shoes are wore out.I doubt it could be from powerbraking it. :woot:

nice slam there larry. in fact, the brakes have been like that since i got it, i just forgot because i was driving my moms for so long. but i still dont like it like that. mike had mentioned its probably the rear brakes as well. wouldnt it probably just be a better idea to get the disc brakes in the back while im at it? or does that take alot too?

It's the expense of doing it John.If the rear shoes are OK then they are more than likely just out of adjustment.Remember your front brakes and hoses are in bad shape also.

Why would you want to waste time finding used brakes or brake hoses
in the junyard? It most likely just need a front and rear brake job with the replacement of the rubber brake lines included.

i'd only get junkyard parts for a swap as in 99-up front spindels brakes etc
or rear disk but rear disk involves a little work

But discs are BLING! I think Larry is gonna smack me next time I see him. Everytime he points me in one direction for my car I ended up doing the exact opposite Oh BTW Im about to have a complete front brake system from a 92GT avaialble man if you want a slight upgrade in braking. It's a little larger diamter disc. I will have the calipers, discs, spindles even the pads available. I'm about to upgrade so if your interested lemme know I'll sell 'em off cheap.

Mine do almost the same thing. Fox body brakes have always been one of there weakest points. The best thing for a budget upgrade IMO is do the lincoln front calipers with SS braided lines and SS caliper sleeves along with a bigger MS and good pads. The rear t-bird disk swap is also an easy swap and cost effective.
