Wheel spacers...your thoughts?

I'm looking to improve the stance/appearance of the rear end and I was considering wheel spacers. I will be mounting stock GT 17X8's on the back with a 275 wheel, but I'm not sure if that is going to be wide enough. I basically want the wheel to come out even with the top of the fender. I realize that I could simply buy a wider rim, but thats not an option.....yet

I like how the front looks, so I'm leaving 255's on.

I have a couple questions...

1. Does anyone have any experience with this?
2. Do you recommend a certain size spacer?
3. Does anyone NOT recommend I do this?

Any feedback would be appreciated...

- Rocky

well, you're being a 99+, it isnt THAT big of a deal... i know on the fox bodies, the lug studs are too short to run big spacers. i ran 1/4" spacers on mine in the front for a while, and the studs were ridiculously short. thats where the danger comes in, because its easier then, for your wheel to come off. as far as the dangers for a 99+, it should be fine, except on the rare occasion that the spacer itself actually cracks. if this happens, itll most likely fall onto the road, and your wheel will have another 1/4 - 1/2" of movement, and this obviously is very dangerous.

this is the reason why i had to spend 500$ to get new front rims.. its a bitch, but better safe than sorry, eh?

get a spacer that includes offset studs....like....

i think they have to be 1 1/4" to clear the stock lugs (so you dont have to trim them)

i've never heard of problems with them, and they always look sweet.

H&R makes good ones, but expensive. They can be found around for about $100 tho.

Thanks for the info guys...yeah, I saw the HR ones and they were $179.00 a pair with the offset lugs...I'll keep looking

I'm gonna hold on to my 18's and order the spacers as soon as I find a good deal. I'll put the spacers on and see how she looks...if it looks good, then I'll keep the 18's for show and take my time with the 17's...once I get out to the track, I'll remove the spacers and mount some welds or something...

if it doesn't look good, I'll get rid of the 18's and keep the 17's for the street...
