whine

ive got no idea whats going on, but i hear some sort of real high pitched whine under the hood whenever i hit higher RPMs. it never used to do this and im pretty sure its not the power steering pump because it sounds totally different. i drive an 02 V6. any help would go a long way

thanks

Drew

ii dont think its a belt, my old 68's belts would go out like no other and its not the same squeal type thing... i was on the way home from class tonight and i noticed it happened more often when id push in the clutch?? like id hit about 3000 revs and push in the clutch and it would just whine real bad? would it be dumb to assume that ive got a low fluid level somewhere? since when the power steering doesnt have enough fluid it whines?? i dno, ill open it up tomorrow and check everything

I'm just thinking it happens when you push in the clutch sounds like to bearing.

Open your hood and look along the belt. If you see anything that says procharger, vortech, or any other supercharger, you have found your problem.

Auto or manual trannsmission?

T/O bearing will usually make noise when the clutch is depressed not when it is at rest as the bearing is unloaded and not spinning.

I would lean toward the tensioner or idler. Also could be the alternator my Lightning had a whine and I thought it was the idler/tensioner however after a little parts swapping it wound up being the alternator.

Don, actually, they TOB does ride the pressure plate fingers at rest on Mustang. Mine squeaks a little bit when the clutch is released. Common failure on these transmissions.

Checking the alt, idler and tensioner, you have to remove the belt, spin the pulleys one by one. Not always a great method though. Sometimes they test out good like that, but with higher engine RPM, they can squeal.

hmmm... something else to throw into the equation that just happened tonight

we got off work and went over to champs, and when me and my girl got back into the car it squealed and sounded just like a belt was loose... tomorrow after class ill open it up and check it out.

just another variable that could be the problem

How many miles on the car?
Have you every replaced the serpentine belt?
Could be a glazed belt that quits after it gets warm.
