My friend’s homeboy wants to race my stock stang. He is driving a stock 1997 Camaro Z28, I don’t know much about Chevy’s so who do you think would win at a drag race? 05 Mustang GT vs ‘97 Camaro Z28 which both cars are stock and automatic. I would do it for fun but just curious who would win.

Well the Z28 that year came out with 285 hp @ 5,000 rpm and 325 ft lb torque @ 2,400 rpm weighted in @ 3433 lbs without the driver.
The 05 Mustang GT is rated at 300 hp @ 5,750 rpm and 320 ft lb torque @ 4,500 rpm weighted in @ 3483 lbs without the driver. So yea, it would be a close race and who ever is a better driver. I could see the Z28 spinning off the line seeing that the torque comes in at very low rpm.

I could be a close race, I would say the driver with the most experiance would win or the car with the better traction. I would stop asking questions and just race the guy that would be the best way to know. The more passes you make at the track the better you will get.

Lt1s are not crap.
both autos should trap around 99 ish. You have a 5 speed auto with better gearing though and should get him out of the hole. from a roll it would be dead even. Of course thats a 12 year old car with who knows what type of maintenance issues. bolton for bolton, a manual lt1 will alwasy be well out in front of a 99+ pi GT
