    Wifey is gonna be pissed....

Went and looked at another car today and pulled the trigger on it. I now have another project. Picked up an '81 Mustang hatchback. Would have preferred a coupe but the deal was too good to pass up. Looking to make this a daily driver that I can take out to the dragstrip on a slow day and make some passes. Nothing too crazy, I would be happy with a 11-12 second street car. I take delivery tomorrow so I should have more pictures.

Here she is. This car has a monster 3.3L inline 6. I was very surprised.

Car showed up today. Looks like a good start. I'm going to really concentrate on getting this thing on the road before the 65 since it is so much closer to being ready.

First thing on the list is an 8.8 rear end.

Just ordered some SN95 spindles (94/95) and wheel hubs. Going to pick up a 2.3/5.0 k-member later today, picking up an 8.8 on Tuesday, and scavenging the local yards for Ranger axles and drums on Saturday. This thing should be coming together fairly quick. Pictures to follow as soon as the parts start piling up.

The crossmember came with spindles, old struts, rack and pinion, sway bar, and springs. I can definitely use the springs and maybe the sway bar if it is larger than the one already on the car, for now.

I was also able to pick up an 8.8 from a friend that will get Ranger 5 lug axles, for now, as well as a used T5 out of a 97 V6 that I have swapped a fox input shaft and steel bearing retainer on to, for now.

UPS dropped of the SN95 wheel hubs today, and USPS dropped of the Fox balljoint to SN95 spindles spacers.

Spindles, calipers, and bellhousing should be getting here early next week.

Got started taking the k-member apart to clean up and paint.

4 control arms bolts, and two rack blots later, vioala!

Washed it up a bit for paint, but did not get around to paint.

Also got started on the 8.8

Minus quad shocks, dampener, drum brake backing plates and what as left of the upper control arms. Lots of degreaser and water.

Tomorrow: SN95 spindles and hubs, paint, and actual vehicle teardown. Maybe some 5 lug axle hunting.

Well, this morning started out pretty interesting. First, as I was walking into the shop, I was attacked by a rooster and a chicken. I got back at them with a water hose.

Then to work. Started out with the SN95 spindles for the 5 lug swap and brake upgrade. They came in with a little surface rust so I gave them a once over in the blast cabinet.

    Before

    A long time later:

Then, as Tom likes to say, some rattle can powder coat in "Cast Iron" color, followed by 20 minutes in the oven @ 400 degrees.

Also spent some times stripping down the engine getting it ready to be removed. Sounded easy but was actually a lot of work. Also dropped the driveshaft out.

I also took a trip to the junkyard and found some rear disc brake caliper brackets that will be used to fit SN95 rear disc brakes on this car.

Tomorrow; Hopefully remove the engine and transmission, and maybe start on the k-member swap.

Didn't get what I wanted to do done today, but I did get some more stuff done for this car.

Last night I had the front caliper brackets and caliper cores come in so I decided to give the bracket a clean-up:

    Before

After, with some paint and mounted to the spindles which also have new hubs on them:

A closer look at the color of the paint; Cast Iron

I also picked up the rear disc brake calipers and I gave them a good clean-up:

    Before

    After

I also pushed the car down to my uncle's exhaust shop to have him cut-out the whole exhaust system to make pulling the engine and transmission a lot easier.

Thanks guys. Trying to stick as much as I can to junkyard stuff. I figured if I don't dump too much money into new or expensive parts right now, when I do get a tubular k-member and other goodies, I won't loose too much in the parts I already put into it.... if that makes any sense. Just trying to do what I can with what I have.

On another note, I won some dropped solid motor mounts and solid transmission mount on ebay for $48 shipped. Someone was trying to outbid me, was that anyone on here?

Made some progress on Urkel as well over the weekend. Pulled the hood off then ripped out the motor and transmission.

And the bastard child k-member that has caused me so much work. I think it would accept the 302 but it would be about 6 inches too far forward.

Now I just need some motivation to turn my attention back to this vehicle.

Anyone want a free seized motor and transmission? Runs like a champ. :lmao:

    Wow man, this is cool.

Having that straight 6 in there made me think about what a 1JZ or 2JZ would do in a fox... lol... I know sacrilege... but then I saw this:

Finally got back down to the shop to tie up some loose ends before I go back to work on
Monday and couldn't help but slap some more parts on the car.

Out with the old microscopic 4 lug brakes

And in with the new SN95 GT 5 lug brakes

Snuck out early from work to run down to the junk yard and hunt down some 5 lug Ranger axles. Found one out of a 92 3.0 Ranger and another out of a 90 4 cyl. Ranger. Also ordered up a set of North Racecar brackets to swap in the sn95 rear disc brakes. Should be back down at the shop on Friday to finish up the sn95 brakes all around and drop in the 5 lug axles.

Swapped the 5 lug axles into the Fox housing:

Also got the North Racecars SN95 brackets installed

    SN95 Rotors

And got the front calipers and pads mounted up.

Back to work 12 hour days* starting Monday.* This project will almost come to a complete halt* until November.

Local guy hooked me up with a set of MAC shorties for cheap. *I'd like to get this car running by December so it looks like the parts will be coming in weekly over the next couple of months.

Next on the list are rear control arms and springs.
