    window tint

I am debating on putting window tint on my car. My only question is.. If I do it myself is it safe to put it on the back window because of the defroster. And if so, is there anything special that needs to be done?

Agreed. Don't try to do it yourself unless you have done several before. The smallest imperfections from doing it yourself will stay there forever and can get worse over time. It is marginally more to get it done right and totally worth it to have a shop do it for you.

    Re: window tint

I've been tinting windows for 14 years. Huge learning curve. Don't do it yourself, take it to a pro. If you tint it yourself it will cost you twice as much, the cost of the cheap film from Autozone , blades , solution, towels, and heatgun. The time involved for you to get frustrated and fuck it up and the cost to have someone strip your mess off and retint it. Save your money and frustrations and take it to a reputiable shop. I personally would stay away from 3m and gila, sunpro, digitint, and lumar. I would only recomend madico. But it's your car. Hope this helps

How much would it usually run me to have the tint removed from the back window? the guy before me tinted it with 2 layers of light tint to make a dark tint... and he didnt even go into the matrix... with 2 layers of tint I'm worried about pulling the tint myself but I can barely see out the back window.

I charge 75 just to strip a back window alone, two layers won't make a differance in price, only one piece is bonded to the window.

You should be able to get the tint off the back window yourself to be honest. Pull tint, use goo-gone, and *lightly* use a razor blade/scraper to get the sticky junk off.

Just pay a professional when re-tinting.

Here is a trick of the trade. Fantastic / 409 and a black trash bad. Gotta have a sunny day too! Soak the back window( inside ) with the 409 and cut open the black trashbag so it will lay out. Place the bad up against the inside of the window( it will stick to the window because of the 409) make sure to cover the whole window. Let it bake in the sun for about 30 mins. Check and reapply more 409. Wait another 15-30 periodically respraying. The tint will delaminate and damn near jump right off the glass by itself. Sure beats scraping with a razor and fucking up your defroster . Have fun.
