WTB 95 gt computer upgrade!
I have a 95 gt. I recently did a cobra upper and lower,gt40 heads,Ecam,3.73 gears and bbk shortie headers. Well when I go to fire this thing up to set the timing,it acts all funny. It had no power what so ever to it(felt like it was bogging),I thought it was fuel pump,so I added a 255 Holley, with an adjustable fuel regulator, but it still bogss, and idle will not set. People have told me to do a 93 Cobra computer upgrade, has any one heard of this,or had this same problem with their 94-95? I need to know what to do,thanks

this should be in tech.. but to answer your question it should still idle even without tune. People will tell you to upgrade to a foxbody computer because there easier to tune but their not better. It's sounds like you havea vacuum leak somewhere. Also check your iac and TPS voltage. Then look into getting a tune.

agreed... maybe check and see if your computer is throwing out lean codes, i'm assuming the check engine light comes on...

Check for vacuum leaks and if all is good , try to disconnect the battery for a while and then try and start it . These cars suck with cam swaps as I told you the other day at my shop . More than likely you will need the car tuned for the mods on it . PSI is probably the best bet since he's got a SN95 car and has worked on it through the years himself .

You should get it tuned. You did not mention what TB you have. I have seen some aftermarket TBs without a hole in them, most of the time when you install a larger cam you will need a larger hole in the TB. Having a larger than stock cam with a 94-95 car, then no hole in the TB, is definitely going to cause idle problems. That will be just part of your problem, from the sound of the symtoms I would say there are multiple problems, other than needing to be tuned. Just curious how did you set the cam up? Also have you set the ignition timing with the spout connector removed? 94-95 cars don't like much more than the stock 10 degrees base timing or they ping. The 93 and older cars I use to set the base timing as high as 17 degrees, but I have not been able to go any higher than 13 degrees on a 94-95 car without it pinging. Most of the time you install a cam that lowers manifold vacuum you will need to increase the base timing, total timing may not need to be increased, but the low end will need more or it will be lazy. You will loose low end with the E cam, it will come on strong at about 4000 and then pull to about 6300 if you have the right intake and heads.

The goal is to get the car to run 10.0 on radials, with out a power adder and still be streetable. My car is an '85 sonic blue coupe with 302 bored and stroked to 364, Ported Twisted Wedge heads and a BXR intake, A9M ECM with a Tweecer, C4 with trans brake, 275/60/15 M/T drag radials, no power adders. |

there is no reason your car wont idle with the e cam.
raise your idle via the screw on the TB to allow it to learn itself. It shouldnt be bogging though. something else is not connected or done wrong. I ran a stock 95 computer with a cam for 6 years. Get a tweecer and read around on stangnet and the tweecer forum for tunes. Or take it to a tuner and make sure they take out the tip in retard. I think you might have the spout connector out or something not connected, maybe a bad bad vacuum leak. If you are getting too much un metered air, the 02s could make it run pig rich and cause the issue you are explaining

btw, dont get a 93 computer
To do the swap, you must run an msd ignition to rev past 4k, have a PIH conversion kit for the harness, and a manual control for the electrical fan. THEN YOU HAVE TO TUNE IT! Do a tweecer, especially if you have a lap top.
