X or H o/r

what exactly is the difference in function and would it make a difference just to get that portion welded on?

The difference is how the two pipes connect. One looks like an X the other looks like an H. If you want to get an offroad one its all up to personal sound. X is a little more raspy than the H. But it also depends on what mufflers you are going to run with. If you keeping stock mufflers get the O/R H pipe. Also if you wanna just get the x or h welded in and keep the stock cats the H would be pointless, its like that from the factory. If you wanna weld in an X behind the stock cats its not gonna make it that much louder but will make it a little more raspy.

well i asked this a long time ago, answer i basically got was this...they both do the same thing in the long run-pass gas. both suck for back pressure but the X's sound better overall given a good quality pipe. you do need to get MIL's either way or the computer will get all pissy

welding it in would not sound nor be good for the car from what i understand especially if the size of the pipe does not match up...

if your under warranty also having a purchased midpipe would be good cuz you can take it off before taking the car in for service...having it welded too could leave room for problems down the road for resale, holes in the exhaust etc...

edit: ohh poopies jonesy beats me again...

the difference in FUNCTIONALITY as asked is very simple. the reason the x pipe was designed was create a pipe that has better flowing properties. the x pipe creates a scavenging effect that pulls the exhaust out of the pipe rather than it just flowing out. this is good for a few extra ponies, over the standard h pipe.

I have the X with flowmasters and my car is raspy. I like the raspy!!! I had an X on the 99 too with flowmasters and it was alot louder. I was told when they put mufflers all the way at the back of the car on the 05's the car wouldn't be as loud.
