My son wants xbox live and I have no idea what I need to get it up and running. All we have now is his xbox 360 and our internet consist of roadrunner connected to a PC.

What components do I need? Wireless router? Does this require a service upgrade from Time Warner? I dont have a lap top so it would solely be for the xbox live.

someone please chime in and let me know EVERYTHING I need to get the service up and running for him.

well there are a couple of different ways. How far is the xbox from your router or modem?? Do you want to do it Wired or wireless?

if the computer is close to the x box, just run a wired connection(ethernet cable run from modem, OR switch(its a box that takes the connection from the modem and gives off extra plugs, kinda like an extension cord lol i have one u can have if ya need it) MOST of the time, the connection will be faster with a wired connection(i used to be wired annd now use the xbox wirless adapter and there is a tad more lag than there used to be) but wirless is very convienient.

you can get the xbox wirless adapter for around 70 new or u can go to gamestop and get it cheaper used...get it used

again i have a switch u can keep if ya come get it. (this would be for a WIRED connection)

The xbox is in his bedroom which is upstairs. The computer and modem is in the living room downstairs. A wireless connection would probably be best.

I may just let him hook it up downstairs though, if I go that route, I will get in touch with you Hoss, thanks for the offer.

depending on how bad you don't want a cord runnin through the house he would be a lot better off with the cord. You can buy em cheap as hell but if its runnin all the way upstairs get one thats shielded so you don't get electronic interference. Other than that you'd have to buy the wireless adapter and then go get a wireless router. which is the far more expensive route. and as said... less effective

what did you end up doing? do you have a xp or vista laptop? you can bridge that laptop instead of buying an network adaptor
